It's a Beta

Please feel free to try a Head-Gut Check Session. We would also appreciate constructive feedback during this beta testing phase. Thanks!
The Head-Gut Check Process

The Head-Gut Check consists of viewing a Projective Differential presentation of pairs of abstract images, and responding to the question "which image is somehow more like the current topic?" and then comparing your responses for each of several topics. The images that you will be shown in the Head-Gut Check session are purposely abstract - they have no inherent meaning. The meaning of the images is in how you perceive them, and in how you choose between them for different topics.

The presentation of the pairs of images is done in a way that bypasses your "left-brain" processes of analysis and judgment. Instead of making a thought out, reasoned choice between the images in each pairing, you will be making an intuitive choice, responding through the quick, holistic, "right-brain" processes. This is achieved by presenting the images so briefly that you can't consciously see everything in them, you don't have time to analyze and compare the images to then decide which is "somehow more like" the topic. Your brain, however, does take it all in, and your intuitive responses to the image pairs, and how those responses compare between topics, will reveal how you perceive, understand, and feel about the topics at a deep level.

There are two types of topics: working topics and anchor topics. The working topics are the issues, options, or choices about which you would like some clarity, or to know how you feel about and perceive them at a deep level. The anchor topics are topics that provide a sort of benchmark against which to compare the working topics. The choice of anchor topics will determine what kind of information you will have available about your working topics. See Choosing Topics to learn about deciding upon topics to work with in a Head-Gut Check session.

Once you have gone through the Head-Gut Check process, viewing a session of 10 pairs of images for each of your working and anchor topics, you will be asked to rate how you feel about each topic on a scale of 0-10, with 0 being extremely negative and 10 being extremely positive. (This is known as an L-Mode rating - your rating for each topic is based on a reasoned, left-brain based assessment - as contrasted with the R-Mode, right-brain responses to the images.)

You will also have the opportunity to take a closer look at the images. You will provide names or descriptions for each of the images used in the Head-Gut Check session. Each of these tasks provides additional dimensions that will enrich the information available to you about your topics.

The steps involved in the whole Head-Gut Check process are:

  1. Determine your topics (working & anchor)
  2. Download, print & prepare the response form
  3. Do the Projective Differential - one round per topic
  4. Rate each topic on a scale of 0-10 (L-Mode ratings)
  5. Name/describe each of the images used in the session
  6. Input your responses into the online scoring and report system

Personalized Report

You will be presented with a personalized report immediately after submitting your responses. Your report will provide you with scores and information to help you interpret your results, and explore your below the surface perceptions of the topics you used in your Head-Gut Check session.
